...I would say it refers to "fat tyre bikes" which are generically considered cruisers in Pt/Pt at least
PS _ Mário - generally "Mountain Bike" in Pt/Pt is "bicicleta todo terreno" (BTT)

Caso não seja um typo para "flat", acredito que você deveria manter o fat tire, porque ao que tudo indica, é assim mesmo que eles são chamados pelos praticantes do esporte.
