: "gordura" would best fit... note the play with words... beef, pork, fishy... pork is synonym of fat, which figuratively means dispensable expenditures in budgets

Thanks... however if we play with "pork" I believe we also should play with "beef up" and also with "fishy" and then it wouldn't sound Portuguese at all... :-)

Yes, if you want to play with words. Yet I can´t think of investment as "gordura". If you spend money to get votes, IMO that´s investment. :)
