51N "Inverse Time Neutral Overcurrent"
The Inverse Time Neutral Overcurrent function (51N) provides protection against ground faults.
Since no zero sequence or ground current is usually present during normal operation, this function can be set for greater sensitivity than the phase overcurrent protection.
If the 51N and 50N functions are not used at the generator neutral, they can be used to detect system ground faults by being energized by the step-up transformer neutral CTs.
Ranges and increments are presented in Figure 2-37.
