The method specification approach requires that a site specific design be performed by the owner's engineer. Designs should be performed such that specified SRW and geosynthetic material properties can be met by a number of manufacturers, and with properties of the on-site soil. SRW and geosynthetic properties are then specified as the minimum properties that must be met. The advantage of this type of specification is that the owner's engineer is in control of design. A potential disadvantage to the owner is that engineering costs are incurred prior to construction.
