Greetings,
How do you say ‘to burn one’s boats/bridges behind one’?
The Free Dictionary defines this as "to commit oneself to a particular course of action with no possibility of turning back".
All the best, and many thanks,
Simon
PS Both 'boats' and 'bridges' can be used here with no change in the meaning. Please see:

I believe that Ṭāriq ibn Ziyād literally burnt his boats behind him prior to his conquest of Spain, and so did William the Conqueror before he conquered England. However, I've never heard of anyone burning his bridges.
