I need a Japanese name for a character

English to Japanese Other Other masculine given names
Hi, this is not for a translation, but for a story. I need a Japanese name for a young male character. I've tentatively named him Koru, for now, because it sounded ok, but the truth is that I don't know if this word means anything else. Any ideas on names? Any good websites in English or Spanish where I can find any names for males?

Thanks,

FYI

'Koru' is strange for me as a neme for both of female and male.
'Koru' means 'addict' or 'be particular about st'
I think the URL below is helpful.

Taro, Junichiro, Hiroshi, etc...

I've listed some common male names below. The nuance will change depending on which one you use. A few Japanese males were traditionally named according to the sequence they where born in. (An example is "Ichiro" of the Seattle Mariners: his name typically indicates a first born son).

Taro (akin to "Joe" or "John" as in "Joe Smith" or "John Doe")
Jun
Junichiro (very common. Current prime minister Koizumi's first name)
Hiroshi
Hitoshi

Another common pattern is to make a name using 2 characters with 2 sylables each, generating such names as:
Toshifumi
Masahito
Terutomo
Hiroaki
Akihito
Naruyuki

You can probably find some examples online combing thru articles in the English language versions of major Japanese newspapers. Try the Asahi-shinbun and Yomiuri.

Good luck.

Japanese

Koru may be 'Toru', a very common Japanese name for boys. I have never heard of any men named Koru.
There are other common boys' names - 'Wataru', 'Ichiro', 'Taro', 'Yutaka', and so on.

I am a native Japanese; born and grew up in Osaka, Japan, and hope this could give you some idea,

agree Kurt Hammond : agreed that Koru does not appear to be an actual Japanese name.

agree annemoses : There is no such name as `Koru` inJapanese it sounds Maori (has a good meaning in Maori), You want to avoid `Taro`: it is too common. Depends on the genre of the story - for more modern names I`d look at names of current Japanese actors in the age group.
