岩葬是我国彝族和壮族等少数民族一种葬俗。岩葬在我们中国南方分布的地域十分广阔，延续的时间也很长。因而在不同的地区和不同的时代，这些岩葬的安葬场所、它们的形制、它们的丧葬礼仪习俗、以及使用这些葬俗的民族集团本身的文化都存在着很大的差别，并形成了种类纷繁、形形色色的岩葬。由于年代的久远，许多使用岩葬的民族相继离开了他们原来聚居的地区，有的民族更是从历史的舞台上消失了。所以这些千年的古迹更令人感到扑朔迷离、神秘莫测。 【特点】 岩葬的共同之处是用山岩来处理尸体，最主要的特点是最终将尸体葬在悬崖峭壁之上或葬人洞穴岩腹之中，山岩是放置尸体的场所，山岩是死者的归宿。 【研究】 对于岩葬从古至今人们在对它们进行锲而不舍的孜孜探索中，也是各执已见，看法纷纭，而对于这种葬俗的命名也是多种多样，不下二三十种。在古代，有将它们称为“棺”的，例如悬棺、沉香棺、铁棺等等；有将它们称为“船”的，例如架壑船、仙船、龙船、敝艇等等；有将它们称为“函”的，例如仙骨函、仙函等等；有将它们称为“葬”的，例如仙人葬、鬼葬山、葬堂等等；也有将它们称为“洞”的，例如蛮子洞、蛮洞、僚洞等等；还有将它们称为兵书匣、风箱、亲家殿的…”等等。到了近现代，学者们在对这类葬俗进行研究讨论时也采用了各种不同的命名，例如悬棺葬、岩棺葬、崖葬、崖棺葬、幽崖葬、崖洞葬、崖墓、崖穴墓、崔圹、岩洞葬、架壑船、横穴墓等等。 (岩葬)
