Your museum can’t afford the work? Pre-sell it and make a subsidy. Contract gig, say a group show, doesn’t pay enough? Dig up two or three more, and delegate responsibility to the institutions as ostensible subcontractors. It’s all fine and good backing things up; however, the more we do this, the more volume is pumped as ***sides deals go off*** and have a life on their own—often in the control of others, be it in production, or ownership, and hence the agendas redouble and muddle.
