ITALIAN MILITARY AIR FORCE!
At the end of last May the Menarini basketball team played against 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and came away, once again, undefeated.
On the last Sunday of May the Menarini basketball team played against 46th Air Brigade of Pisa in a most unusual openair setting in the Air Force base in Pisa. The game was held as part of the Minibasketball competition in which hundreds of young players took part in a series of matches held in makeshift basketball courts dotted all over the air base squeezed in between the hangars which regularly house the humongous C-130s long distance aircraft, capable of carrying heavy cargo and personnel on prolonged flights.
The team had its up and downs during the first part of the match but there was a quick
turn around thanks to the intervention of Coach Stefano Evangelista who ordered his men to keep to their areas, a technical tactic which allowed our team to have the better on their younger and more athletic opponents.
We feel a special mention must go to Fabio Paradisi, young trainee in the C2 league, and we must not forget the nimble moves of Baggiani and Zanardo, the masterful handling of the ball by Mastrullo, the skilful dashes across the court by Lucente and Rombola, as well as the active participation of Ricci-Armani, Casini and Evangelista. I think spectators will remember for a long time to come the long shot thrown by Rag. Pieri, on what was probably his fi rst appearance on a basketball court (Beginners luck we ask ourselves...?).
Unfortunately Danese and Troiano absent due to sick leave or injury, weren’t able to be part of the team. This most pleasant day came to a close with a tour of the base and the C-130s as well as a sumptuous meal provided the commander base.
Once again, our team members gave it their best shot … Can’t wait til September when their will be the return match!
