Offenheit
Google around on "Offenheit + Windows NT", and you'll find a wealth of hits.
Microsoft's glossaries show "Offenheitsgrad" (for Win NT and BizTalk Server), but IMHO, Offenheit all by itself would fit better into your context.

Offenheit

Openness can have many different meanings in relation to Operating systems. It can mean open-source, open-standards, high interoparability and compatability...
Windows-NT is not really famous for being open in any of these ways. That is why I am unsure about the translation.

: You are suggesting the same term as Ulrike but you do not agree with her?

I agree with her. I arrived at the same term independantly after all. I just am less sure of it. And wondered about her confidence in a "wealth" of hits, that don't really support the suggesstion.
