gas wells drilling
Stress cage is a new technique in drilling through depleted zones. It has been used .... for some years and uses carefully sized calcium carbonate particle ranges previously thought to impede continuous drilling. It has been found to be effective in drilling through depleted zones with minimal to zero downhole losses.

...One key area of BP’s understanding in the drilling arena relates to use of ‘stress cages’. This is a method of strengthening a wellbore using additives in drilling mud to build a shallow concentric region of stress around the well, inducing tiny fractures which are then plugged with special additives. The net effect is to form a ‘cage’ of stronger rock around the wellbore to optimise drilling conditions and enable wells to penetrate further.
