English term

occipital breakdown

English to French Medical Medical: Health Care collar
Contexte : "The XX Collar Back is an accessory back piece indicated for patients with C-spine precautions who are at high risk of developing occipital breakdown or those desiring nighttime post-operative comfort."

Je ne trouve pas de correspondance exacte sur le Net pour "occipital breakdown". "effondrement" ? "affaissement" ? "rupture" ? Quel serait le terme à employer dans ce cas ?

Dr Sue Levy (X) Jan 17, 2007:
No it's not exactly the same but this is a marketing text and you need to adapt to the target. You can't put "risque de décomposition de la peau", it sounds terrible in French.
liz askew Jan 17, 2007:
I'm sticking to my guns here, as "skin breakdown" is not the same as "pressure sore".
liz askew Jan 17, 2007:
How about "décomposition [de la peau]" = skin breakdown

liz askew Jan 16, 2007:
that is linguistically
liz askew Jan 16, 2007:
fine but there is a difference between skin breakdown and decubitus ulcer.
Drmanu49 Jan 16, 2007:
I had initially suggested escarre occipitale. I will reopen my answer.
Dr Sue Levy (X) Jan 16, 2007:
"risque élevé d'escarre occipitale" - je ne vois pas le problème
Muriel Martin (asker) Jan 16, 2007:
Thanks for all your contributions! Anyway, would there be a specific term in French referring to "skin breakdown" since "skin breakdown" is only a stage of "decubitus ulcer"?
Dr Sue Levy (X) Jan 16, 2007:
Skin breakdown" corresponds to a Stage II decubitus ulcer. There's a ton of info on the net about this.
Dr Sue Levy (X) Jan 16, 2007:
Skin breakdown is part of the process of a decubitus ulcer. http://www.arabmedmag.com/issue-15-09-2005/dermatology/main0...
liz askew Jan 16, 2007:
"Breakdown" and "pressure ulcers" are two separate entities.
liz askew Jan 16, 2007:

neutral Dr Sue Levy (X) : it's a pressure sore - escarre occipitale in French

Well, I would never have got that in a million years. How can "breakdown" be a pressure sore in the English language?
