Discussion

Johannes Gleim Feb 7, 2021:
@ Daniel I also considered « non mises à l'échelle » (voir mon deuxième lien), but excluded it at the end after very extensive search together with « impulsions » and « signaux » due to no much reliable sources. Hence, I wonder that you found that term with Badger. In fact, it is a translation from English too, as Badger is US company.

I have still doubts, but you may go with it.
Daniel Marquis (asker) Feb 7, 2021:
Daniel Marquis (asker) Feb 7, 2021:
Tony In another Badger meter document, I have also found this:
Type de signal
Sorties analogiques 4-20mA et sorties d'impulsion « mises à l'échelle/non mises à l'échelle ». So, you are right here and I'll probably keep this translation. Many thanks to you!
Tony M Feb 7, 2021:
@ Asker Great Daniel! That exactly confirms what I first thought then: in 'unscaled', an arbitrary number of pulses = 1 gal / 1 ft³, whereas in 'scaled', the count has been adjusted (multiplied/divided by a 'scale factor') so that it produces a meaningful output.
So the idea is very much 'mise à l'échelle' in some way, shape, or form.
Daniel Marquis (asker) Feb 7, 2021:
Some more information My client is not Badger but he uses Badger meters. Extracts from a Badger manual:
''The HR-LCD 4-20 scaled/unscaled is a permanently sealed, electronic LCD register that produces a scaled/unscaled output as
well as an analog 4-20 mA DC output signal...''
Table titled ''Measurement Resolution'': we have 3 columns with ''Scaled (pulse/unit) and 3 columns with ''Unscaled (pulse/unit). For ''Gal'' we have respectively 1 (scaled) and 228.415 (unscaled). For ''cubic feet'' we have 10 and 1708.661. And so on... Hoping this will clarify!
Also look at this link: https://www.instrumart.com/assets/hr-lcd-manual.pdf
Tony M Feb 7, 2021:
@ Asker Do please note that there is an important technical difference between 'étalonné' and 'calibré' — these terms are NOT interchangeable at will! And 'scaling' is something slightly different again.
Daniel Marquis (asker) Feb 6, 2021:
Full title text This is the full title in MY TEXT: "Unscaled Consumption Pulses signal out-of-range" alert posted. I cannot give any more detailed context. However, I think that ''non calibré'' or ''non étalonné'' (see Frederic's answer) would be suitable.
Tony M Feb 6, 2021:
@ Asker Sorry, I have a dodgy Internet connection and can't visit your link.

I think it is highly UNLIKELY to be 'non échelonné'
In EN, 'unscaled' usually means there is no scale; in other words, a metere might give say 1 pulse per rotation, BUT that does not correspond (= is not scaled) to any particular measurement — i.e. 1 pulse ≠ 1 litre or whatever; so there will be some electronics that performs the 'scaling' calculation so that the data can actually be meaningfully used. This would be the NORMAL meaning, but depending on exactly how it is used in your text, there might be some other nuance of meaning.
'Non calibré' might be a closer bet, again, depending on the exact context.
Daniel Marquis (asker) Feb 6, 2021:
More context. Ref.: Tony In the text, we have also this passage: ''Do not attempt to connect the connected pressure monitor to other Badger meter registers. So it's a Badger meter. See the following link to get more context: https://www.badgermeter.com/fr-ca/products/encoders/hr-acl-4... I think we have the answer here! Probably ''non échelonné''?
Tony M Feb 6, 2021:
@ Asker We really need to see surrounding context, to see exactly how the term is being used, as it is potentially ambiguous...

neutral Tony M : Possible, but without more context, I wouldn't like to be sure.

disagree Johannes Gleim : No Badger Meters are allways calibrated … Meters are calibrated on primary standards traceable to NIST, with published uncertainties, per NVLAP* Lab Code 200668-0. https://pdf.directindustry.com/pdf/badger-meter/measurable-r...

non-modulable, non-adaptable

I do not believe that Badger Meter sells sophisticated instruments, but uncalibrated. This is totally out-of-standard.

From the added context I understand that some models include scalable (extensible) registers, i.e. the scale can be adjusted to custom, issuing signals to scale.

I think that we can exclude any terminology like « ne peut pas être mise à l'échelle » ou «n'est pas extensible ou même non-extensible ». This would create a problem for selling. Hence we shall look for more appropriate terms.

disagree Tony M : There is a huge difference between 'scaleable' and 'scaled', which is the source term here / I already gave my interpretation hours ago, now confirmed by Asker's additional context; I did incidentally also give a suggestion.

What is your interpretation and your proposal? You could also select one of my links, e.g. that (non)« mises à l'échelle », chosen by the asker.

Unsure whether Badger Meter is the client. Nevertheless, some information about scaled/unscaled products from "Badge Meter Inc.":

Badger Meter offers innovative flow metering and control solutions for smart water management, smart buildings and smart industrial processes, to help measure and protect resources for a smarter world.
High Resolution LCD 4-20 scaled/unscaled registers from Badger Meter are fully electronic, solid-state and field programmable. The HR-LCD 4-20 scaled/unscaled register produces a scaled or unscaled output, as well as a 4-20 mA DC output through a dual output wire design.

HR-LCD Pulse
Scaled Register
:
The High Resolution Pulse scaled register (HR-LCD Pulse) is a fully electronic, solid-state register with no moving parts. It is designed for use with all current Badger Meter® Recordall® Disc Series, Turbo Series and Compound Series meters. These solid-state units produce a scaled output.
:
Scaled Output
• The scaled output is a switch closure output defined as: green wire = positive, black wire = negative.
• The scaled digital output from the register has a default resolution of 1/10th of the register test circle (resolution may vary in some cases).

The HR-LCD Pulse differs from the HR-E® LCD Encoder by an added 'scaled' register with 'scaled output' acc. data sheets below:

Signal output | Industry standard ASCII format
Signal type | Three-wire synchronous for AMR/AMI solutions Red = clock/power; Black = ground; Green = data
