English term

hundreds and thousands

English to French Other Cooking / Culinary
Il semble s'agir d'un type de décoration pour gâteaux mais je ne trouve nulle part la traduction.

Contexte :

This is a range of cake mixes and decorations that includes the following products: a 100g box of decorative sugar with four 50g sachets of sugar in yellow, blue, green and red; a 160g box of various sprinkles including 50g of hundreds and thousands, 30g of sugar pearls......

Discussion

Isabelle Barth-O'Neill Apr 6, 2011:
Il faut voir en fonction du produits - beaucoup de termes peuvent être utilisés
Estelle Demontrond-Box Apr 6, 2011:
I agree that it could translate by either "vermicelles" or "perles" - it depends on your original text or recipe. Have you got a picture?

Here you are, exactly the same thing, from Vahiné:

Otherwise, they call the cylindrical ones 'vermicelles arc-en-ciel' (I have some in my pantry!)

'sugar pearls' are something quite different, please see the Wiki article (link originally posted by Estelle DB, thanks!):

Personal remarks are forbidden ;-)
agree Isabelle Barth-O'Neill : plutôt multiperles - http://www.kookit.com/ustensiles-cuisine/patisserie-pain/dec... OK MAIS LE PRODUIT À L'INTÉRIEUR EST LE MÊME !!!

Merci, Isabelle ! Mais je ne pense pas : ça, c'est un multi-distributeur de plusieurs sortes de perles... Oui, mais c'est un distributeur de multiples perles ; individuellement, elles ne s'appellent pas 'multiperles'
agree Natasha Dupuy : abba-solutely! I've always known the cylindrical ones as "sprinkles" in English

neutral Tony M : Vahiné describe them as 'arc-en-ciel' — but these aren't spherical, like the ones I remember from my childhood in the UK.

Yes either long or little balls. But I think that they are all called vermicelles in French...
agree Tony M : No, the little balls are called 'perles' by at least one manufacturer (who presumably should know what they're talking about!) (more than home cooks, anyway!)

Thank you Tony!
agree Maya M Fourioti : 50g of hundreds and thousands, 30g of sugar pearls...... cela explique '' vermicelles''
