English term

raft

English to French Other Construction / Civil Engineering
Sound absorbing suspended ceilings, baffles, "rafts" and wall panels represent various options open to the designer. Je pense à "radier". Merci pour vos suggestions.

Discussion

Tony M Nov 19, 2016:
@ Asker Not sure if you can quite use 'radier' here; at least this extra context does confirm my earlier comment about these baffles being 'sound-absorbing'.
However, a 'radier' in the sense of a concrete raft is quite difficult to make sound absorbing!
It all depends exactly what your context means by it: it seems that these are in fact intended for ceiling mounting, which of course changes the meaning considerably!

agree Tony M : Thanks! Curiously, this FR site appears to be a seriously flawed translation from the EN site — however, I don't think that actually calls into question the actual term required here.

disagree Tony M : That would be a 'rafter' in EN — and wouldn't really make much technical sense here in either language.
