English term

pixel corner patch

English to French Other Computers (general)
Sixteen luminance patches with pixel values varying from 8 to 248 for luminance response evaluation. Each patch contains four small 10x10 pixel corner patches at ±4 of pixel value difference from the background, +4 in upper-left and lower-right, lower-left and upper-right.

Discussion

Didier Martiny Sep 7, 2007:
patch: plage de mesure, de contrôle
Tony M Sep 7, 2007:
No, me neither! Let me think...
kerbager (asker) Sep 7, 2007:
I used «retouche» for patch, but I am not sure about it
Tony M Sep 7, 2007:
How are you translating 'patch' here?
Tony M Sep 7, 2007:
it's actually 'corner patches' that are '10 x 10 pixels' in size

agree Tony M : Yes, I think you have it here, although I must admit I found very few instances of its being used like this when I did a quick Google...

Some ideas...

Well, I really don't think 'retouche' is going the right way for patch here.

I was wondering about 'médaillon' (I found that on a colour reference materials website, where it did indeed refer to a rectangular colour sample), or failing that, simple 'carré' — regardless of size, it seems as if they are all likely to be square, so where's the harm in saying so?

Also, 'plaque' is another possibility; and only a few weeks ago, a question came up on KudoZ which was all about colour paint sample 'patches', but I'm blowed if I can remember what it was now!

You might alternatively consider going the other way and considering the function of these patches, using something like 'échantillon'...

As for '10 × 10 pixel', I presume that is now obvious, and for corner here, in terms of an image, I'd use 'coin', I think

Here's quite an interesting reference where they talk about the 'échantillons' on a 'mire' — functionally, that is basically what you are dealing with here:
