@ Proelec I agree, but it is vital here to convey BOTH ideas: the 'tap' (i.e. what we are connecting) and the 'lead' (i.e. specifically the physical wire, not just the abstract notion of 'connection')

Given the context... ...i.e. tap-changing on hefty xformers, I don't think it is a 'flying lead'.

Term search The term 'tap' came up quite recently, and I feel that one of the answers given then is almost certainly what you need here — but I can't remember what it was!

'lead' = 'fil', or (here) possibly 'connexion'
