O Come Emmanuel/ O de l'Avant

English to French Art/Literary
O viens Emmanuel

(O Salutaris, O Sapienta, O Adonai, radix Jesse...)

Already delivered the job but if someone's got a site address, that would be great.

Merci! Ol

voici le texte anglais O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
Words: Latin: c. 9th Century - Tr. by John M. Neale - Tr. by Henry S. Coffin
Music: VENI EMMANUEL - Adapted from Plainsong, Mode I - Thomas Helmore

O come, o come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here,
Until the Son of God appear.

CHORUS: Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!

O come, O Wisdom from on high,
who orders all things mightily,
to us the path of knowledge show,
and teach us in her ways to go.

CHORUS: Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!

O come, O come, thou Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes on Sinai's height
In ancient times didst give the law
In cloud and majesty, and awe.

CHORUS: Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!

O come, O Rod of Jesse free,
Thine own from Satan's tyranny;
From depths of hell Thy people save,
And give them victory o'er the grave.

CHORUS: Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!

O come, thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.

O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer,
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death's dark shadows put to flight.

O come, Desire of nations, bind,
In one the hearts of all mankind;
Bid Thou our sad divisions cease,
And be Thyself our King of peace.

Ton peuple entier s'attend à toi
Refrain:
2) Oh! viens bientôt, que ta clarté
Dissipe nos obscurités,
Errants et tristes dans la nuit.
Nous appelons le jour qui luit.
Refrain:
3) Oh! viens bientôt, descends vers nous,
Saint Fils du ciel, aimant et doux.
Aux coeurs troublés apporte donc
La paix divine du pardon.
Refrain:
Entends au loin ton peuple aui gémit;
Dans la violence il vit son exil,
De ses souffrances, quand renaîtra-t-il?
Refrain:
Refrain:
8) Oh! viens, Jésus, tracer notre chemin;
Visite-nous, Etoile du matin.
Au fond de nos regards fais monter
L'éclat soudain du jour d'éternité.
Refrain:

agree Yolanda Broad : Wow! Quelle trouvaille!

Thank you, Yolanda, but it seems that it's not the correct versions. I'm still looking, but haven't found them.

Oh viens bientôt Emmanuel

Indeed, I have often found the three verses but the eight ones are a different matter.
Here is one among others for three verses http://www.granby.net/~santschi/cantiques/pc253.htm
, in case they would not be covering the three you already got.

So far the best results I have had were using Yahoo.

Try and put the entire text through the search engine, you could get a better result. I have found some info on the song which could help but my ISP is playing up right now and it's high time I should be in bed, so try too the search in English with O comme Emmanuel, there was one page there among the top ones giving info as to the library in which the original French text was kept, so searching for this library could lead you to an answer. Hopefully.

Otherwise, simpler, why not try your local Christian church or monastery. Whether you are located in a French speaking country or not, a reasonnable church would be able to produce or tell you where to get it.

Good luck, it's 6 AM and I am not too much in need of sleep to think of anything else which could be of any help to you. I'll try later on if no-one has been suggesting anything better. If so, could you please email me the full text? Thank you.

Last, on
http://fr.google.yahoo.com/bin/query_fr?p=o viens bientt emman...

you will see a list of artists having sang it, so if you can have a look at a local shop or online at the stated lyrics.
I remember seeing (in the O COME EMMANUEL search this time) at the top of the list, an artist (maria something perhaps) where it was stated that in her CD, the lyrics were given in French and in English, but I haven\'t had time to look on the net for the usual music shops where one can listen to the songs online. A fan club of this woman would be likely to provide you the lyrics too.

Viel Glück !
