English term
tripping over dollars
English to Chinese
Tech/Engineering
IT (Information Technology)
CentOS
This starts to look very much like the “running with scissors” scenario that Red Hat tried unsuccessfully to apply to CentOS prior to CentOS Stream. It’s suddenly a silly exercise in “tripping over dollars to save pennies” given that the operating system—the foundation for a company’s applications, databases, etc.—is comparatively cheap compared to enterprise spending higher up the stack.

trip over的本意是被“绊倒”。
https://www.gymglish.com/en/gymglish/english-translation/tri...:
to trip over something: to fall over, to stumble on, to slip on something
从这里的上下文看,“为了节省1分钱而被1块钱绊倒”,似乎可以翻译成对应的中文俗语

本末倒置/因小失大
根据这段文字前面的“ Red Hat tried unsuccessfully to apply to CentOS prior to CentOS Stream”,“tripping over dollars to save pennies” 的意思似是“本末倒置”。
