In aerospace any process improvement in maintenance has to be certified by the regulator as being safe. These process improvements are known as Maintenance Credits.
Since the inception of Condition Based Maintenance technology and the HUM systems on aircraft very few Maintenance Credits have been obtained; most HUM data is treated as advisory and the systems are certified on a no hazard - no credit basis.
If HUM data can be used to alleviate the need for costly maintenance that results in unnecessary down time then the HUM data needs to be credit worthy, even more so if aircraft are going to be maintained on condition.

The system was originally certificated for use on a ‘No Hazard, No Credit’basis. This meant that the system was not certified against any functional health monitoring requirements or objectives. No warnings are provided to the flightcrew (with the exception of Flight Manual exceedences) from which a decision about the airworthiness could be made in-flight

The approval is therefore based upon a ‘no hazard, no credit’ assessment in that theequipment is assessed purely on the basis that it introduces no hazard to the aircraftor occupants, but that no credit is given to its functionality .
