There are two general approaches to developing scope and objective statements: the “top-down” and the “bottom-up” approaches. The approaches are not mutually exclusive; both can be used. In the “top-down” approach, the scope and objective are established by the corporation. All potential sources of the targeted material (using the waste and emissions inventory) are identified and potential solutions for each are evaluated in order to achieve the established objective.
