English term

Bereavement Benefit

English to Arabic Other Insurance Pensions
How is this different (in Arabic) from Widow's Benefit?
These are some of the pension benefits of the British Retirement and other Pension benefits.

Thank you in advance.

I found this article in the link (http://www.highbeam.com/library/doc0.asp?DOCID=1G1:93366285&... Maybe it can shed some light.
Non-ProZ.com Aug 14, 2005:
I owuld imagine bereavement to be the breadwinner's loss is a prerequisite and if as some answerers have said it is a temporary payment, probably pending completion of processing of widow's pension.
Non-ProZ.com Aug 14, 2005:
bereavement Is there perhaps a different word for benefit other than , because the latter entails an assistance grant, whereas pension benefits are insurance payments; shouldn't there be a distinction? Just a thought to consider in defining benefit.
Khalid: It depends on the pension scheme. It seems that the British pension scheme provides what are called: state pension, graduated pension, widow's benefit and bereavement benefit. I am not sure on the details of any of them and who and how one qualifies for any of them. The literature I am working doesn't delve into such issues.
Khalid Alkodah Aug 14, 2005:
hello: if a 9-year-old boy dies, will his father be able to receive bereavement benefit? or should the deceased be a sustainer or breadwinner of the family? Thans

According to the glossary of terms of Centrelink (Social security department) in Australia it means:

we call it bereavement benefit,in case the deceased was a working person, whether a husband, wife, uncle, custodian, son, daughter or any relative. This is given on condition that the deceased was the sole sustainer or breadwinner of the family - regardless of his/her being a father or a mother. While the "widwo's benefit" is given to a person when his/her spouse deceases.

the deceased had to be a sustainer .... not just any member of the family.
