English term

freedom from want

Non-PRO English to Arabic Law/Patents Government / Politics UN charter
How would you translate FREEDOM FROM WANT
the context is ANNAN's UN report
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (1): Ali Alawadi

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Hello Djidji
I read the passge you provided. Its translation is wonderful but if I were you, I would go for
and it is up to you. It is just a suggestion.

Best Regards

Hi Zeinab,
Even if "want" means
it is so hard
Zeinab Asfour Dec 5, 2006:
The third is freedom from want, which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants — everywhere in the world.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I would opt for التحرر من العوز as it is used in the UN documents. I would like to thank Ali Alawadi for giving the best answer and I am also very grateful to the other peears for achieving such a conclusion.

Just another suggestion that seems to be the preferred translation in the UN documents.
Thanks

Just another suggestion.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Mutarjim97 : I believe this is part of what the UN calls Development Millenium Goals and therefore the idea is more than just satisfying material needs for the undeprivileged. It is rather ridding humanity of all sorts of socio-economic ills.

Could you please relate your comment to my suggested translation, unless you are addressing Annan not me ;-)
