I am working on a text, which has been translated from Dutch to English. The term "piketregeling" has been translated as "picket provisions", which does not make much sense in English. The context is too limited to help (it just says "instructions, protocols, picket provisions, etc.") and I would appreciate very much if one of my Dutch colleagues would clarify for me what does "piketregeling" mean.

Generaly 'piket' refers to standby duty (the word comes from the French piquet and originally meant a military sentry; the term 'picket duty' for sentry duty is also used in English).
If your context is specfically related to the court system. the Legal Lexicon says that 'piket' refers to the emergency defender service and a piketadvocaaat is a duty lawyer or duty attorney.
A standby arrangement is also used in (e.g.) fire brigades where several persons serve as the officer on duty in rotation (e.g 8-hour shifts).
In the case of the police of fire brigade, 'piketdienst' would mean standby duty or a group of people on standby duty (ready for operational deployment if needed).

The context is not quite clear to me, but as far as I know "piketregeling" is used in Dutch for stand-by services of personnel of emergency services, e.g. fire brigade,
ambulances etc. A friend of mine works for the munipal authority and sometimes has so-called "piketdienst" which means stand-by duty in the event of emergencies. kind regards Heleen
