if 'to commit itself as "borgtocht" of DEBTOR' is context, then it should read: 'agrees to stand guarantor for the debtor'. Since it involves a person, 'itself' is clearly not appropriate (him/herself). Nevertheless, Jarry's intial response was correct.

I thought the most common way of using the term surety is to say 'that someone STANDS surety for the debts of someone else'.

To answer your question, yes, I would say in this cotext the guarantor declares to commit itself as surety for the debtor. I belief "for" would be the correct word here, but someone else may know better. Almost seems redundant to me since "guarantor"

Surety according to Black's Law Dictionary:
One who undertakes to pay money or to do any other act in the event that his principal fails therein.
One bound with his principal for the payment of a sum money of for performance of some duty or promise and who is entitled to be indemnified by someone who ought to have paid or performed if payment of performance be enforced against him.
