Dutch term
short sentence
Dutch to English
Tech/Engineering
Construction / Civil Engineering
De oude molensteen ligt nu rechts op het terrein, vlak achter het hek aan de weg. De woningen hebben een begane grond en een zolder. Vanuit de gootlijst van de langskappen zijn dakkapellen opgetrokken.
This is an extract from a paragraph describing an old gunpowder factory (kruitfabriek). I do not understand the last sentence:
Vanuit de gootlijst van de langskappen zijn dakkapellen opgetrokken.
Could anyone help me please?
I think that "dakkappellen" may be dormer windows and "opgetrokken" may mean "to put up/construct" but I can't find out what "gootlijst" or "langskappen" mean. I think that "gootlijst" may be something to do with "gutters" but can't find out anything more than that.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Dormer windows have been built from the eaves fascia of the main front roof
According to the Kluwer Bouw dictionary:
gootlijst: eaves fascia
If you search for langskappen on the web you can find some pictures and (indirect) explanations:
http://www.brockhoff.nl/whproject/proj_BAR_brigantijn.html
http://www.saanen-knoups-arch.nl/Hoofdmenu_projecten/Seriema...
I found a website in English which shows a similar construction:
http://www.onaquidneck.com/brownhouse/photos.htm
They describe the roof as the 'main front roof'.
"Dakkappellen" is indeed dormer windows (Kluwer Bouw)
Kluwer Bouw gives different translations for optrekken:
build or erect if it is a building
raise, put up if it is a wall
Good luck!
