Discussion

Dr Sue Levy (X) Jul 19, 2007:
The word "stethoscopy" does of course exist and is used by native English speakers, but not in this context. Of the 18 ghits for "pulmonary stethoscopy", only one is NOT from the Proz.com site.
Jandrew (asker) Jul 18, 2007:
Thanks Peter. Checked out the link too.

If you search for 'Step P ... C' you should find an answer to it on ProZ.com.
'St. p.' stands for 'Stethopia pulmonalis' and 'St.c.' for 'Stethoscopia cordis'.

Pulmonary auscultation

Nå, men eftersom det åbenbart er normalt at bidrage med svar baseret på kommentarer til spørgeren, vil jeg så bidrage med dette nye indlæg (jeg synes faktisk, at det må være lidt mærkeligt at basere sit svar til en spørger på en kommentar fra en anden bidragsyder ...).

Ifølge www.medicinordbogen.dk (ved søgning på 'stetoskopi' er 'auscultation' førstevalg og 'stethoscopy' andetvalg:

stetoskopi s
1. auscultation s
The act of listening for sounds within the body, chiefly for ascertaining the condition of the lungs, heart, pleura etc

eksempler
The lungs were normal to auscultation
On auscultation the heart rate was extremely rapid
Auscultation by means of a stethoscope

The Danish latin is for pulmonary stethoscopy and is accepted in the US when translating Danish medical reports as P.st. = pulmonary stethoscopy
Peer comment(s):

neutral Dr Sue Levy (X) : I don't know what is accepted as translation from Danish in the UK but "pulmonary auscultation" would certainly go down better - "stethoscopy" sounds very foreign indeed//and I've been a doctor for 28 years...

I found this on proz.com, http://www.proz.com/kudoz/1536158, from another translator. I had a medical transcription company for 35 years, and indeed stethoscopy is used by physicians.
