not to be smart, but 30 Year's war is btw 1618 - 1648 and initially it was fought largely as a religious war btw. Protestanst and Catholics in the Holy Roman Empire; it was a series of wars principally fought in Central E., involving most of the countires of E.
What is a debate btw Hannah/ Stuart, (the) history is about The Bohemian Revolt 1618-1621 (only 3 y.) when Protestants supported the stance taken by Catholics and in 1617, Ferdinand was duly elected byBohemian Estates to become the Crown Prince , and automatically upon the death of Mathias, the next King of Bohemia and so on ...
So I would say, because it is not about The Bohemian Revolt but it is 30 Y's war why do not think about term Estates (of the realm) ... thanks for reading. M.

I don't claim to know the history better, what I mean is that perhaps I am more used to writing in English about it (by reference to the original Czech/Bohemian/Moravian/Silesian documents)

It would not be unusual at all for a non-native speaker to know the history of the country better than the Czechs, and I mean this sincerely. It is just that, in my opinion, you have introduced an unnecessary issue since Moravia, despite being under the Habsburg rule, had a standing so distinct that anything coming from there could not have been Bohemian or Czech but Moravian, as I indicated earlier, this especially if you wanted to distinguish it from the Czechs. Please correct me if I am wrong, but the acceptance of hereditary rights had taken place well before the 30-year war, so there really is no issue here, IMO

Naturally But in texts of this type the words Bohemian, Moravian and Czech are going to be floating about, so I was merely clarifying the translation of "ceske" here. If Jan has any further questions about this period, I'm quite willing to help. While not an expert on the war itself, my dissertation was on Kryštof Harant z Polžic a Bezdružic (God rest his soul), so my Renaissance Czech isn't too bad.

I did not mean to be petty here; however, historically, at that time, it would be rather unlikely to be referring to the Moravian uprising, for example, as a Bohemian uprising.
