這跟人有些好有些壞一樣

Non-PRO Chinese to English Other Education / Pedagogy Grammatical Analysis
Sentence: 每個人的手指都是有長有短的,這跟人有些好有些壞一樣。

1st Attempt: Some of our fingers are long, and some of them are short. So too, is it with people when it comes to the good and bad in each of us.

Problem:
1) I am really concerned about my rendering of this sentence. Despite my own interpretation that I like very much -- not as a translation, but as a philosophical statement about the world; I fear that I have misinterpreted the meaning intended by the author. Can he really mean that some people are better or worse than others?

In effect, I have tranferred the meaning of each from the front of the sentence to the rear. What do you think? Is the same meaning conveyed?

As always your comments about other parts of the sentence will not be overlooked. Also, I have posted the completed first page of Part II, Chapter 6, but have not yet made it available to the genral public. You may see it by clicking on the link below.

The one for 做人的目的是甚麼?有的人為了錢,有的人為了名戌 is wrong too.... :(
Xiaoping Fu Apr 9, 2006:
Some of the English translations on the above page seem wrong to me. At lease the first one is misinterpreted for sure.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Revision: Some of our fingers are long and some are short. So too, is it with people; some are good and some are bad. Discussion: That I may refer you to: http://homepage.mac.com/moogoonghwa/tsongkit/part2/II-6b-g.html#s11 Acknowledgement: As I suspected, mine and the author's philosophy about the human condition are very different. Perhaps the author's sentence does reflect the mentality of many Chinese, and maybe many people in general. Certainly, I would have felt much closer to the author had he written 人有時好有時壞. I am glad this is only an exercise in grammar."
