Birth Certificate - Yemen
I have what looks like the above word in a handwritten birth certificate from Yemen.
The problem is that it comes under the heading الديانة
Is it normal to classify citizens in Yemen as مسلم باوزير ?
I Would appreciate any help or suggestions, and or corrections.

Bawazeer
This is one Yemeni family name. It doesn't mean "surname" as might be understood by Abdallah Ali, though I'm sure he doesn't mean it. I agree with Abdallah as so many family names in Hadhramout of Yemen start with BA. Since this is a proper noun, it has to be transliterated.

Surname
It is 'surname' for sure. It has nothing to do with religion.

It is Hadramout dialect. I double checked it with a Yemeni friend of mine. :)

: Yes it is a common Hadhrami surname or family name. Muslim answers the question on religion, but why the religion comes with the last name is unclear. Bawazeer would not have to do anything with the religious classification.

Discussion
The handwritten document fields in the following order:
Name, Fahter's name, Gradndfather's and Surname, Religion, Occupation, etc. It is reasonable that s/he just carried on registering the surname under religion.
