período seco

Durante el período seco (dry period) el animal es extremadamente susceptible a contraer una infección ambiental causada por Streptococci, especialmente durante las primeras dos semanas y los últimos 7 a 10 días antes de parir o durante los primeros 7 a 10 días de lactancia. La incidencia de infecciones al parir es el doble de las que ocurren cuando la vaca deja de lactar (dry-off).

o directamente \"destete\", no sé que te parece. Se usa mucho ese término para los animales.
