Spanish term

asideros de soga

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering Safety equipment
This is all about safety systems for preveting falls at construction sites. These "asideros de soga" are attached to workers' harnesses, and are used for hooking them up to safety lines at the construction site.

Typical context:

"Los ensambles de ***aisderos de soga*** usados en combinación con una línea estática deben ser posicionadas en la línea de vida por lo menos encima del hombre del usuario".

I think this might be soemthing like those metal clips that mountain climbers use to attach themselves to safety ropes. What is the correct techincal term for these things?

You have no idea!!!!
You are absolutely right, George! You have no idea just how bad this original is. In some places I think it originated in Swahili, and went through ancient Hebrew, medieval Russian, Urdu, and Bushman before finally arriving at Spanish. At least, that's what it looks like... Sigh! One of those....
George Rabel Oct 13, 2004:
Not sure what they are called, Stuart, just wanted to comment that your text sounds very much like a translation from English, so if you could find the original English you will find the term there, with the bonus that the "translation" will be done ;)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks to everyone! It seems that "carabiner" is the correct tehcnical term, but the customer prefers "rope clips" due to the context of being a safety manual for construction workers, rather than a mountain climbing manual.... Sigh!"

carabiner

The word you were looking for is carabiner, mosquetón in Spanish. If it is that, it is because of a bad translation as George says. (good advice, George) Either that or a short piece of plastic-covered strong rope with a caribiner at each end which you attach between your harness and a strong point on the scaffolding. i.e. a safety line. btw, "rope grab" sounds very "yanki" although it may well be ok!
