German term

tau

German to English Medical Medical (general)
I am translating a document about trials carried out on equipment designed to test the blood of diabetic patients. There are a number of graphs (which are partly in English) which plot the accuracy of these devices in comparison to other methods. There are a variety of letters and numbers (y=12345, X=45678) etc. and then "tau = 0.929". Does anyone know what they could be referring to?
As I say, the graphs are partly in English anyway so maybe it is English???

Ok, it doesn\'t show, sorry. There are a lot of formulas and symbols in this link that do not show here in my answer.
Peer comment(s):

agree Siegfried Armbruster : It is definitely the greek letter that is meant. It is used in statistics e.g. "Kendall's tau".

agree Richard Benham : It is the Greek letter tau--same in English as in German (and Greek). Nothing to do with tow-ropes.

the TAU-group

In addition, the TAU group is developing new ways for turning stem cells - from both embryonic, fetal and adult human tissues - into ... insulin-producing cells, which may be able to replace dysfunctional pancreatic beta cells. If successful, these approaches could lead to the development of widespread cell replacement therapies for diabetes.

Don't know if your translation deals with a text of the Tau-group ...?
