English term

title switch

English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
"Emergency Mode will be activated if an installed man Down title switch option is activated for a period exceeding ..."

This is NOT a switch you activate on purpose, it's a built into the radio, so if the person who has it on his/her belt (maybe a police officer or an electrician, who knows) falls down, and does not get up for so many seconds, the radio starts transmitting. It is the "TITLE" part that bothers me. What does it mean here?

Thanks y'all!
Non-ProZ.com Jul 18, 2004:
oohhh I didn't think it could be a misspelling! Wow, now it makes sense!
Ramesh Madhavan Jul 18, 2004:
I can only make a good guess. Could they mean "TILT switch"?
Non-ProZ.com Jul 18, 2004:
Thank-you, Ramesh This particular one activates when the radio is on its side for so long. In previous manuals of this device they simply called the feature "man down switch", so the word *title* throws me off. Do you have any idea what they mean by *title* here?

A timer switch which goes 'ON' after a specified period of inactivity

To ensure that the person can communicate with the control centre in a difficult situation, it is possible to design devices which will be activated automatically, to send signals, if the person has not confirmed his safety by following certain procedures.

If it is a Tilt Switch, it will go \'ON\' when it is in a tilted position[in this case, may be a horizontal] for more than a defined period of time.
