Here's the note you wanted to add: I have found "wall fissure" or "foot of the wall". However I am wondering if there is an equivalent in English and what that might be.

This would be the most accurate translation in this context, for it refers to the combination of foundations and the lower section of the masonry (or the like)

I would prefer foundation over basement, because the basement is below ground level, whereas the "Sockel" is still visible

neutral Armorel Young : I agree that the Sockel is above ground - but the foundations, like the basement are (except in unusual cases) below ground, so this is not a good translation
