French term

Café-clôpe

French to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
THe description below is:
tasse et étagère

I understand the concept, I can even visualise the design but I can't render it properly into English. Any takers?

Discussion

eirinn Jun 28, 2004:
I have to ask rather stupidly: is it really caf-clpe with a circonflexe on it? Is there a cigarette on the image? (There is no ^ on clope meaning cigarette.) Is it about the film Caf-clope?
Non-ProZ.com Jun 28, 2004:
It is about Caf-clpe.

I've thought about both terms offered but I don't think either of them illustrate the concept well enough.

If you could illustrate the concept for us..........

agree Sophie Raimondo : Would work better than "fag" in the US, Writeway's right... also, I feel it's a good idea to leave "ciggie" in, which translates, rather than edits, the French + politically incorrect original...

a coffee and cigarette break

I understand it, not as a piece of furniture but as a moment, at the end of a meal or as a pause, a break in general.

does this describe it?

In English, I try to avoid specific mentions of cigarettes these days (PC pressures), leaving the \' clope\' implicit in the idea of \'break\'
