English term

pimp

Non-PRO English to Irish Other Slang
Just curious, as it happened to come up in a conversation at work... what is an Irish Gaelic term that would equate to "pimp"?

fualán

'Fualán' is given in Ó Dónaill's Irish-English dictionary as meaning 1. Urinal, chamber pot. 2. Wretch, pimp. A more recent glossary from An Coisde Téarmaíochta gives 'máistir striapach' (= master of whores)which has more literary pretensions than the term may deserve!

fostaitheoir

is sometimes used but not really sure
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony Pratschke (X) : 'fostaitheoir' is a variation on the word 'fostóir' meaning 'employer. (Ó Dónaill)

True, it means employer, but it also has that vulgar meaning in the vernacular.
