cabled/rudented column

Cabled or rudented columns...have their flutings filled with cables or astragals to about a third of their height.

So Tom is right that it's fluted, but it's a particular kind of fluting. I'd avoid 'rudented', as readers won't know what it means, and add a few words of explanation.

As the paragraph before the one I've cited above shows, the architectural term for a column like this is 'attached' or 'engaged'. But I'd go for the plain-English 'projecting from the wall'.

disagree Tom in London : From the photograph, there is no evidence that the flutings of this column are filled with anything at all. Furthermore, the column is very worn away and only the top part is visible.

If you mean the fifth photograph, the cabling will be at the bottom of the column, which is not shown in the picture. So how do you know there is none?
