Grand Duke Cosimo III de' Medici (1642-1723) was an avid worl map collector, and between 1667 and 1669, during his travels, he acquired a large quantity of Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese maps, which he kept at his Castello villa.
The collection is currently kept at the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana, as specified in your excerpt and they are collectively known as Carte di Castello
