Plane sailing
This is navigation suitable for distances up to about 500 miles and uses basic plane geometry to calculate the position. Excellent for flat earthers who would probably eschew spherical navigation as a conspiracy of the Illuminati.
The name is sometimes used to cover coastal navigation techniques for fixing the position such as transits, doubling the angle on the bow, taking bearings on 3 fixed objects and eyeball navigation. The idea is that it is a compendium of techniques that excludes spherical trigonometry, so it's PLANE sailing. PLAIN sailing has quite a different meaning.
the second link has a pdf from Peru that describes plane sailing and coastal navigation techniques under the heading Navigación Plana.

: This is merely one of the many ways of getting an idea where you are. This simply multiplies the apparent distant run along a supposed course. Plane sailing is far more comprehensive.
