I wouldn't object to that at all Hassan. For further precisiin of translation, a note specifying what it takes in terms of credit hours or semesters should be added to the translation.

Exactly Saeed, the source text differentiated between two degrees that mean the same thing/level. I think a safe way out would be to use the French word "maitrise" and thus transfer whatever it means to the translation

Thanks for the input. I guess DEUG is Diploma in UK and Associate Degree in US both requiring the successful completion of 4 semesters.
The issue here being "Maitrise", it is my belief that calling it Master's, instead of Bachelor's, leaves us with the problem of how to translate ماجيستير.

The Diplôme d'études universitaires générales (French for General Academic Studies Degree), abbreviated DEUG, was a French national degree. It was delivered between 1973 and the LMD reform [fr] (implemented between 2003 and 2006 depending on the university) by universities one year before the license (roughly equivalent to Associate degree).

Since the implementation of the Bologna Process (2003 to 2006 depending on the university), the DEUG is a diploma through the Bachelor's degree. It is issued if students are successfully completed double degrees first four (of six) semesters and receive one diploma with both major fields. Areas and programs are no longer set nationally, but universities have often taken existing titles.
