Long turn answers

English Other Education / Pedagogy IELTS assessment
Context:

Grading is based on the written test, plus performance in long turn answers.
Long turn answers consist of speaking and writing components.

==============
Does it means "long answers according to the student's turn"?

Thank you so much!
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Yvonne Gallagher Jun 3, 2021:
@ Asker Simply Google "IELTS long turn answers" and you will immediately get lots of info.

"long turn" in writing and speaking means in-depth answers. "Turn" here means to perform (at length) so speak and write on a topic at length for the 2 tests

more in-depth answers

Because the questions would probe both oral and writing skills.
Peer comment(s):

agree Arabic & More : I think this is probably what one would usually call "long-form" answers (at least in the US).

oral answers in international exams takes one to two minutes

They focus specifically on the long turn which is the part in many international exams when the candidate has to speak alone for one to two minutes.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Yvonne Gallagher : not "takes"! The candidate has to speak for two minutes on a topic, Also has to write at length.

the underlying idea on the part of the examiners being to determine and assess the candidate's lexical and grammar skills and ability

copied the IELTS ref and of course it should be "talk about a topic IN length" not "AND"

IELTS stands for “International English Language Testing System” and is an exam to judge English language ability.
