Mass-market quotation collections Now popular on forums (e.g. http://forum.jenatik.ru/archive/index.php/t-94.html), the actual translation might have come from a pre-revolutionary cheap collection of “Famous quotations”, so the name of the «литературный негр» who came up with this one won’t be unearthed.

botched translation I think this is a garbled translation of the passage from Julius Caesar which has taken on a life of its own on the Web. Shakespeare surely wrote nothing of the kind. Go with Mandelstam!
