neutral Hacene : your proposals are not the accepted translation

accepted translation by whom?
agree Emérentienne : lodge and gite fit perfectly, would day-over or stay-over lodge/accomodation be acceptable ?

Yes, short-term accomodation could be possibly used.

neutral Tony M : Be wary of adding 'rural' or 'cottage' --- have been caught out many times with these! 'short-stay' might be a good way of coping with 'étape'...

stage sleeping-place

Just a suggestion!
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : A nice suggestion, but sadly nonsense in English! Might be a place where the stage-hands go to snooze in a theatre... :-)

COMMENT

It's a holiday cottage / flat or other type of holiday accommodation that is rentabel, not by the week (as is usual for a gîte), but overnight, or for the weekend.
The essential difference from other accommodation (such as B&B etc.) is that it is SELF-CONTAINED and SELF-CATERING.

As far as I am aware, there is no exact English equivalent, and hecne I don't believe an 'accepted' translation; my own inclination would be to go for soemthing like 'self-ctaering overnight accommodation' though that is of course horribly cumbersome for your context!

I have some reservations about 'lodge' inasmuch as it could imply a specific type of building, or have connotations of hotel chains (Travelodge, etc.) --- neither of which has anything to do with the real thing...

Apologies for the typos, comes from typing on-line and when you\'re tired!
Maybe \'Short-stay [self-catering] holiday rentals\' would cover it all...
