It means staying at home and following the guidelines. You should not go out to work, to shop or visit friends in their homes.

You should avoid any face-to-face contact, so that means no visitors.

Visits from people who provide you essential healthcare and personal support are fine. Carers and care workers should stay away if they have any of the symptoms of coronavirus and anyone coming into your home should keep their hands clean by washing with soap and water.

تحترز


I am sure you know that "shielded" means protected by extra measures. A literal shield is something that one wears or uses to protect oneself from impending danger. In this case, the word is used figuratively in reference to precautionary or preventative measures.

In Arabic, we use the verb احترز to denote the taking of extra measures for protection. It is commonly used in all Arab countries the context of extra protective measures against the coronavirus and covid-19 (you can look it up all over the internet). Protective measures are referred to as تدابيراحترازية أو إجراءات احترازية. Here is an example from Saudi Arabia:
