Hello,
I'm looking for an English equivalent of "reklamieren" in the following sense. The sentence is taken from an expert report.
"Es wurden mechanische Beschädigungen reklamiert."
"Reklamation", "Reklamationssumme", "Reklamant", "Reklamationsgegenstand", "reklamierte Ware", et.c are also in the text. Der Reklamant and der Anspruchsteller are the same Person/Party.
Thank you in advance!

...as in ..."a claimant making a claim on the insurance policy" for:
* claimed sum - Reklamationssumme
* subject of claim - Reklamationsgegenstand
* goods /items claimed - reklamierte Ware
* physical damage claimed for - mechanische Beschädigungen reklamiert
* claimant - Reklamant

Just to add, for clarity:
For better flow of text, you may (or not) prefer:
* claimant - Reklamant
* applicant - Anspruchsteller

Note from asker:
Thank you. You've provided almost a pack of solutions with claim. That's what I've hoped for. By the way, I'm translating the german text into Turkish. |

German term (edited):
Es wurden mechanische Schäden reklamiert.
The claimant reported mechanical damage.
Or if you wanted to maintain a passive rather than an active expression, you could say, "Mechanical damage was reported."
Note from asker:
Thank you! If that sentence was the only one with Rekla- that I've dealt with, your solution would indeed be perfect. I couldn't have bypassed the others with Rekla- in the text. |

Michael Martin, MA
: We're clearly dealing with the verb form here.It's not enough to merely translate the noun equivalent and claim that's all there is to it. This seems to be the most idiomatic way of getting the verb form across in the given context.

I felt that his answer wasn't quite complete (otherwise I would've simply agreed or scrolled on by), but understand that you disagree.

complain
Duden: "reklamieren = beanstanden, sich darüber beschweren" ist also noch keine formale Anklage (claim) an einem Gericht.
Webster's: "complain = to express ... discontent", "claim = to ask for"

: You don't complain to an insurance company, you claim. This doesn't merit a 5.
