agree EKM : Yes, the Swedish "solitär" refers to the board game with beads/balls in particular. One of my dicitionaries lists the translation "spring leap" for the game. Does that ring a bell for anyone. Very few Google hits.

agree Sarah Ponting : yes, it may not be the card game - you can also have solitaire boards with little balls or counters - the important aspect is that the game is always for 1 player only

It can also be a card game but my first thought is the little board, it's sometimes also referred to as pocket solitaire as it is small and can travel.
