Italian term

Psicologia del pensiero

Italian to English Medical Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs Degree subject
This is a module on a psychology degree at Rome Sapienza University. I am not sure whether to use "psychology of thought", "psychology of thinking" or whether there may be something more commonly used here.

Psychology of thinking results are approximately 6 million.

Note from asker:
I am already aware that these two terms are possible and can be used in their correct contexts (as you will see from my question statement). I am looking for proof of the correct usage in my context.
Peer comment(s):

agree Fiona Grace Peterson : Lara, the only context you give is a subject name. Mona has told you it is a subject name at the U of Michigan. Not sure what further "proof" you are looking for.

psychology of thought/thinking

It doesn't matter which you use. They both mean the same in this context and, as Mona says, there is no significant difference in the number of Google hits.
Example sentence:

PSYCHOLOGY OF THINKING. PSY252.01. Overview of high level cognitive processes in both theoretical and applied areas

Lines of thinking: Reflections on the psychology of thought, vols. 1 and 2. K. J. Gilhooly, M. T. G. Keane, R. H. Logie and G. Erdos (Eds), John Wiley ... Wiley › onlinelibrary › acp.2350060209

Note from asker:
I genuinely don't agree they mean the same thing. That's the problem. And google hits mean nothing considering the amount of incorrect language usage on the internet.
I know what you mean, the difference is probably not worth pondering over, but I was looking for the most widely used in UK university courses I guess.

Psychology of human thought

With a degree in psychology, my first thought was cognitive psychology, but then there is no reason why you couldn't have a course entitled the "Psychology of human thinking/thought" or even "P... of reasoning".
But with a little research: the course description is on the Sapienza website here http://www.psicologia1.uniroma1.it/static/didattica/IdInsegn...
The first item on the reading list is R.J. Sternberg, E.E. Smith, La psicologia del pensiero umano, (tr.it.) Armando Editore, Roma 1998
and the original title of that book is R.J. Sternberg, E.E. Smith (Eds.), The Psychology of Human Thought, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, England (1988)
So for me the "Pyschology of human thought" would clinch it.
Note from asker:
I like this. It sounds more feasible. Are you posting it as an answer?

neutral philgoddard : The translation of one book title is irrelevant - this is a course module, and either word would do.
