In the US, aside from the time spent at a hearing, attorneys charge for the time it takes them to get to the hearing from their law firm and back, hence door-to-door. An attorney may spend only one hour at the court house for a simple hearing and charge 5 hours because he/she spent 4 hours on the road round trip.

agree Sandro Tomasi : To understand the concept of travel time in relation to a court hearing, is to be a court interpreter in Los Angeles. Your phrase captures the essense of the original, but I would not be opposed to a more literal approach (puerta a puerta).
