I writing a translation on a "lettera di patronage " which is commonly translated as a comfort letter. Which is a sort of prommisary letter usually issued by a parent company to a subsidiary that promises to pay debts incurred by the subsidiary should there be any problems. But it is not a surety. The institution issuing the comfort letter is the PATRONNANT. E.g. a sentence reads "Non è prevista, a carico del patronnant, l’applicazione di commissioni o spese per il rilascio della garanzia
For the moment I am translating it as Sponsorer . Does anyone have an idea of the official expression??

There are other articles in English – mostly written by Italians, mind you – where patronnant (a French word, by the way) is given as patronant/patron.
